More than 8,800 runners compete in the International Marathon Tournament in Hau Giang

(HGO) - On the morning of July 7th, the official races of the “Vietcombank Mekong Delta” in Hau Giang took place at Hoa Binh Square in Vi Thanh City. In 2024, over 10,000 athletes registered for the event, including 2,000 children who competed yesterday.

Among the more than 8,800 runners participating this morning, there were 19 international athletes from Thailand, Japan, Singapore, India, and other countries.

The 42km race started at 3:45 a.m, the 21km race at 4:30 a.m, the 10km race at 5:30 a.m, and the 5km race at 6:30 a.m.

The “Vietcombank Mekong Delta” marathon in Hau Giang, which is the largest marathon in the Mekong Delta region and part of the VNMS scoring system, features a running track standardized according to AIMS standards.

The female runner set a new record in the 42km category, earning a spot in one of the six prestigious World Marathon Majors.

This year’s marathon has adopted the theme “Shine Together”. Its message, “Save Mekong Delta”, advocates for afforestation and environmental protection efforts.
